    Presenting Film: "The Last One"

    • Neal Hutchenson will be here to present his film The Last One in conjunction with the new exhibit “Tending the Still,” which examines the moonshining industry in North Carolina. Mr. Hutcheson is an Emmy-award winning documentary filmmaker from the Southeastern United States. Many of his films have found an audience through public television, including The Carolina Brogue (PBS 2009; Doc Channel 2009), The Outlaw Lewis Redmond (PBS 2009; Doc Channel 2009), The Last One (PBS 2008; Doc Channel 2008), The Prince of Dark Corners (PBS 2007), The Queen Family (PBS 2006), and Mountain Talk (PBS 2004 & 2010, Doc Channel 2009). Three of his films were honored in a special showing in Berlin, Germany in 2006, and he received the Bill Arnold North Carolina Film Award in 2008 for The Outlaw Lewis Redmond. In 2009 he received an Emmy for The Last One.

    Civil War Living History Day

    • The MOA will commemorate the Battle of Elizabeth City, fought on February 10, 1862 with its Civil War Living History Days.
    • Demonstrations, mustering of the troops and artillery firing will occur on The Green and at Waterfront Park. Many exhibits of personal collections of Civil War era artifacts will be on display in the Lobby. Members of the Tar Heel Civilians, a North Carolina Civil War Reenactment Group will be presenting programs that bring the Civilian aspect of the wartime era to the public. A lecture series will be held in the Gaither Auditorium. Speakers and their topics include: Ronnie Woolard: "The Impact of Chaplains on Civil War Soldiers"; Jason Madre: "The Battle of Elizabeth City History of the Mosquito Fleet" and Bruce Long: "CSS Appomattox".
