Do you know what happened to lovely Nell Cropsey after she disappeared from her Elizabeth City home on a cold November night? History buffs may unearth a few clues to this real-life, turn-of-the-century murder mystery when they attend the 15th Annual Historic Ghost Walk, Oct. 7-8 in Elizabeth City.

Presented by the Elizabeth City Historic Neighborhood Association, the tour directs visitors to historic homes and sites associated with Cropsey's life and death, including a stop at the city's oldest, active cemetery. At each stop, costumed actors piece together the chain of events leading to 19 year-old Cropsey's disappearance, the discovery of her body in the Pasquotank River and the trial of her beau, Jim Wilcox, the last person to see her alive. This year's Ghost Walk marks the 110th anniversary of the death of Cropsey, last seen on Nov. 20, 1901.

The Center, at 516 E. Main Street, is the headquarters for the tours, which run from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Free transportation is provided to and from the Ghost Walk sites. Tickets, good for both nights, are $12, or $10 with a military ID, and are available at The Center, Muddy Waters, Page After Page and Puddleducks in Elizabeth City, and The Village Roaster in Camden County. In addition, a fried chicken and barbeque dinner will be served from 5-8 p.m. both nights at the Virginia Dare Arcade for $8. Ghost Walk ticket sales benefit Elizabeth City Historic Neighborhood Association programs.

In addition to Historic Ghost Walk, Elizabeth City hosts a bountiful line up of fun fall events. From homecoming to Halloween happenings, the "Harbor of Hospitality®" beckons!
